Minimum Vision Requirements

Everyones’ eyes are different, and there are a number of ways to help correct your vision. Idaho DMV advises that “your vision will be tested and you must meet a minimum standard of 20/40 vision in at least one eye, with or without corrective lenses.” No need to panic if you are not at the minimum standard. The DMV may ask you to complete a further road skills test.

If You Have Them Use Them – Use your glasses or contacts while driving

A large percentage of the population wears glasses or contact lenses. The older you get the higher the possibility of needing prescribed eyewear.  Make sure you wear your glasses or contacts when driving. Be aware that “if you wear glasses or contacts during the vision screening, a lens restriction will be placed on your driver’s license.”

We Are All Getting Older – Keep Your Prescription Current

“If a lens restriction is placed on your driver’s license, you must always wear your glasses or contacts when operating a vehicle or you could be cited and lose your driving privileges for a period of time.” You may not be required to renew your license every year but as your eyes continue to change it is important to have your eyes checked regularly. As a patient of the EyePros we will give you an annual reminder for an eye exam. The Optometrist will review your prescription and help you keep compliant with the state vision requirements. Once you are 62 you will be required to apply in person for renewal of your license.

Additional Vision Assistance – We Are Here To Help

There may be times that the DMV will request further information about your vision. Our Optometrists and staff perform many tests that will assist you and we can provide further details as your eye physician. “If you have a visual and/or medical condition that could affect your driving, you may be required to provide a statement from your physician certifying that you can operate a vehicle safely.” If you require further help with vision statements from your Eye Pros Optometrist, “the necessary form may be obtained from the driver’s license examiner at your county sheriff’s office.”

To have your vision checked for compliance please book an eye exam at one of our six offices in Idaho.

*This information is provided to assist our patients and for full details you should always check with your local DMV.

He was also trained in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, ocular hypertension, and macular degeneration.

This training provided him with the opportunity to work with patients of all different ages and circumstances. He works closely with the region’s ophthalmologists in co-managing surgical procedures such as LASIK, PRK, and cataract surgery.

Outside of work he enjoys sports, music, camping, and spending time with his wife Brandi and 5 children.

Dr. Kendall Wilden
